Nancy O'Dell began her broadcast career as a reporter and anchor for WPDE-TV located in Myrtle Beach South Carolina. Then, she joined WCBD as a morning anchor and crime reporter. O'Dell's articles in Charleston, about how the Charleston police handled DUI cases with leniency led to an inquiry by State Law Enforcement Division. The inquiry led to a stronger instruction for the state's authorities. According to the Associated Press awarded Ms. O'Dell an award for the Best Report of the year Award to every aspect of South Carolina media. O'Dell's experience in Charleston has led to her serving as a co-anchor, reporter and anchor for NBC's Miami WTVJ-TV. Before she joined Access Hollywood she was a weekday co-anchor as well as the weekend anchor for NBC. In addition to her current work as a lead anchor on Access Hollywood Ms. O'Dell is also an anchor for NBC News' Today and also contributes to Dateline NBC. She was a reporter for events like The Oscars, The Emmys, The Grammys, and The Golden Globe Awards. As well as co-hosting the Pre Show Arrivals for The Emmys & The Golden Globes. In addition, she hosted the Miss USA pageant and the Miss Universe pageant.
